The Video Game Industry

Being apart of the Video Game Industry is hard work. If you do happen to get in to the industry, you have to keep up with the latest technologies, and be able to work with a team of like-minded individuals. The company you work for may go under only a few months after you came on board to work on their latest game. That is due to the competitive nature of the industry.

Being apart of the industry isn’t all that bad either. If you happen to get a job with a good strong company, you very well could be set for life. The industry is showing no signs of slowing down, adn that is a plus. It means there will always be jobs for the diligent programmer or artist. If you are looking for a recession proof job, this very well could be the industry to get into.

There are six main jobs in the video game industry. You have the programmers, that code the software. You have artists that draw the levels and characters. You have designers, who develop the storyline and gameplay. The producers take care of all of the business, and make sure people are on task. Composers make music and sounds for the game. Last, but not least, you have QA, which would be the game testers.

The business can be defined as publishers pay the expenses for a part of the share, and the rights to intellectual property. The publisher will generally take over the majority of the design and direction of the game.

It is obvious that you will want to get a degree. Some people may not need them, but in this industry, you have to have proof that you are able to get your work done on your own.

If you absolutely want to make your own game, there are several homebrew tools to use and get a handle on basic designs of a videogame. They are the best bet for indie game designers to get started on game ideas.
